Is there anything more of an oxymoron than a “creative open space”? Although promoted by management as the spark to ignite creativity, studies are proving what most creatives always have known: “Forcing creative people to ‘collaborate’ simply blunts their creativity”. Simply put, the creative process require solitude – a need served by MZPA’s The Planet – a miniature multi-functional refuge of privacy for thinking, working, reading, or even just daydreaming.
Unveiled at Paris Design Week, The Planet is outfitted with more than just a physical barrier against intrusion of the senses. The geodesic capsule is made comfortable with a mattress designed to cocoon its occupant from sounds and distractions; storage pockets and shelving, a tablet mount, LED lamp, USB charger, wireless speaker system, and even solar panels for standalone power distinguishes it from just a buffered space – with such a bevy of technology its easy to imagine oneself in their own Mars capsule.
MZPA’s design team envisions The Planet as an ideal solution for privacy for open space offices, on a terrace, dotting hotel lobbies, or used as VIP lounges for all types – anywhere where a little privacy is both welcome and necessary. If space permitted, we wouldn’t mind inviting one into the orbit of our own lives.
