Swedish Design Brand Hem Launches New Products at Milan Pop-Up

Stockholm-based online retailer Hem is showcasing new product launches such as the Kumo Sofa by Norwegian studio Anderssen & Voll and the Stripe Tufted Rug by modernist fashion designer Arthur Arbesser, alongside a curated selection of the brand’s existing furniture and housewares by designers such as Luca Nichetto and Arthur Arbesser – at Milan pop-up ‘Hem Brera Atelier’ (Via Statuto, 8, 20121). “As a design company founded on the principle of collaboration, we are thrilled to return to Milan with a temporary atelier introducing our latest line-up of designs,” says CEO and founder of Hem, Petrus Palmér.

Design Milk was in Stockholm in February for a sneak preview of the modular Kumo – Japanese for ‘cloud’ – Sofa. The modular system was designed for efficient shipping (Hem offers free delivery to 34 countries worldwide) by Norwegian design duo Anderssen & Voll.

Built around a single module, the Kumo can be configured as a single armchair or a sofa with as many seats as needed. “Kumo offers flexibility with an innovative frame and cushion construction allowing components to easily be added, removed or rearranged as your living circumstances change,” says a statement from the brand.

Also being launched is a collection of rugs and throws by Vienna-born, Milan-based womanswear designer Arthur Arbesser. Inspired by contemporary architecture, the Stripe Tufted Rug is tufted in 100% New Zealand wool by a family business in India, working according to global standards, such as Rugmark, SGS and Woolmark, to ensure quality, good working conditions, and no child labor.

Arbesser’s Vienna Throw (pictured) is woven from thick 100% New Zealand wool and inspired by the designs of Austrian architect Josef Hoffman and the Wiener Werkstätte collective of Austrian architects and designers.

Following his 2015 Alphabeta pendant lamp, Luca Nichetto has once again collaborated with Hem to create a floor lamp version. Combining eight shapes and four colorways results in 1,024 possible configurations of this bi-directional lamp.

Hem will also launch the Kendo Chair by Italian design duo LucidiPevere , the Log Table Pro by Belgium-based French designer Julien Renault and a reimagined version of the Hide Pedestal by Karoline Fesser .
