Sustainable Outdoor Seating Made from Yogurt Cups by Studio Segers

Studio Segers has figured out a way to turn household plastic waste, like yogurt cups, butter tubs, and plastic bags, into environmentally-friendly outdoor seating for ECO-oh!. The modular H-bench consists of two components – with and without backrests – that connect together in a variety of ways resulting in endless configurations. Basically, you can create a stool, chair, bench, sofa, or any combination as small or as large as you want.

The modules with backs can be situated facing the same way or opposite to create easier connections with other people. They come in dark grey (black), medium grey, light grey, pastel green, pastel blue, and beige, giving the option of just a single color or a mix. H-bench is made using polyolefins, which means the seating is durable, weather- and wind-resistant, low maintenance, and colorfast, making it a great option for just about any outdoor situation.

Garden On The Roof Apartment by XS Studio

Located in Tel Aviv, Israel, the Garden On The Roof Apartment was designed by XS Studio for young clients that wanted to enjoy family time, entertain friends, and let their children play. The two-story residence had a layout that wasn’t working so the studio flipped it, bringing the private spaces downstairs and the living area upstairs in order to utilize the roof deck.

Upstairs houses the open kitchen and living room which extends out to the outdoor terrace, expanding the square footage. Lots of windows surround the public space to create a light-filled interior that appears larger than it is.

Part of the kitchen cabinetry hides a door leading to a storage area and guest bathroom.

The stairwell features concrete stairs and a skylight that filters light down to the entryway.

By twisting the staircase and lighting it from above, it draws guests upstairs to the public area.

designstudio PESI Envisions a Future When Every Surface Will Charge Mobile Devices

Seoul-based designstudio PESI’s acronymic principles of “Possibility, Essential, Standpoint, Interpretation” direct an exploration of form-meets-function, manifesting in a collection of furnishings and homewares with wireless-charging technology integrated below every surface.

Developed for Samsung Electronics’ startup incubation program, Creative Square, designstudio PESI’s Blend Into Space outfits everyday objects with modular electromagnetic induction coil units hidden beneath each surface for smartphone charging.

The conceptual collection is an iteration of another project, On the Surface, expanding the original collection of wireless-charging accessories of a Container, Clock, Mirror, Speaker, and Tray, adding two additional furniture table pieces.

In a time when charging mobile devices throughout the day is necessity, a habit as normal as filling a cup with water to satiate thirst, designers and technologists are expanding where, how, and when we can charge our increasingly power-hungry devices. What designstudio PESI’s collection signals is a near future when we won’t need to worry about finding an outlet to power up because every surface will be a conduit to power up.
