Villa Öjersjö: A Contemporary Black Wooden House by Bornstein Lyckefors arkitekter

Overlooking lake Stora Kåsjön, Villa Öjersjö is a modern residence just east of Gothenburg designed by Bornstein Lyckefors Arkitekter. The architects helped merge the black wooden home with its surroundings by “lifting” the landscape as not to overtake the site or compromise the views of the water. Privacy was also a concern, as were the strict regulations associated with the site, making the design a complicated one.

All of the site issues were addressed, as was the privacy, by keeping the house closed off towards the street and more open on the west and lakeside. That resulted in a dramatic roof slant, which also creates a visually dynamic interior.

While the exterior is clad in boards finished in a black calcimine color, the interior is finished with solid wood that’s unfinished. The natural wood contrasts with the black framed windows that frame the views.
