Summer is officially over, and whether we like it or not winter is on the way. The season where it’s perfectly accept to spend your entire weekend curled up on the couch binge watching Suits – no judgement here. Here we’ve put together our top tips to get your home ready for the cooler months of hibernation
1. Your Bed Is Your Sanctuary
There’s nothing like snuggling up in a cosy bed during the cooler months. To get yours feeling toasty whip out the flannelette sheets, and swap that light summer blanket for a heavier winter doona (goose down or wool is best). Also consider installing a mattress topper for maximum comfort and add a throw and scatter cushions.
Add a rug in natural fibres like sheepskin, shag or wool underneath your bed, especially on floorboard, to make getting up in the morning that little bit easier.
2. Don’t Forget The Decor
Get your nest looking cosy with some additional cushions and throws. It’s an easy update that can really transform the look and feel of a space. For maximum winter comfort, go for natural textures like sheepskin and hides.
3. Clear The Junk
The home tends to get hectic and cluttered over the winter months, so take time at the start of the season to put away anything you won’t be needing until summer rolls around again. Clear your fans and any other summer themed décor, taking the time to give your home a good seasonal scrub!
4. Colour Your World
Bring your home into the new season with a few choice colour changes. This season, jewel tones are trending and have the added benefit of adding some much-needed cosiness! Think rich hues in emerald, ruby, navy and teal.
5. Light It Up
Nothing says a cosy winter night in like a roaring fireside! Take the time to make sure your fire place is ready for the season and stock up on firewood. If your home doesn’t have that little luxury, a few well-placed scented candles can be just as cosy.
6. Mood Lighting
Let’s be honest, winter means more nights at home in front of the couch (not that we’re complaining!) A few extra table and floor lamps will go a long way in creating a cosy mood and atmosphere in your living space.
7. Time For Tea
Colder months also means more warm drinks! Get your living room set up for time spent binging on your favourite Netflix series with a sturdy side table and coasters. Think about investing in a new favourite tea pot and matching mug sets to make those cold winter nights feel a little bit more special.
