One look at David Olivares’ concept Y-A FUYU HIGH sneaker design and it’s impossible not to imagine the Hoth base cold assault stormtroopers in The Empire Strikes Back, giant mechanized robots from anime, the profile of the adidas Kobe Bryant shoes circa 2000, and hardware usually found securing skiers onto their skis. Whether any of these references played a part in shaping this multi-layered futuristic boot-sneaker is unknown, but we like the exploratory results.
Olivares conceived his weatherproof mechanized sneaker design as a knowing nod to the urban high fashion aesthetics of Yohji Yamamoto’s adidas Y-3 label and Germany’s techwear imprint, ACRONYM. The multi-layered sneaker is accessorized with functional straps, zippers, and locking closures, in sum creating a futuristic profile communicating fashion accompanied with technical functionality.
