Louise is a minimal collection consisting of a cabinet and sideboard created by New York-based studio PELLE. Described as a study in simultaneity, the series focuses on the play between light and shadow, and blackened metal with glistening brass.
Inspired by Louise Bourgeois’ ‘Cell’ sculptures, the cabinet and sideboards are designed to enclose and reveal. The perforations may prompt most viewers to look within while others revel in the piece’s expanded metal frame, to the pair of ebonized oak display shelves perched inside.
The hinged doors open the cabinet or sideboard with contrasting solid brass handles. The bottom of each features a raised metal plinth that serves as a display shelf, while below sits two front legs that transition from blackened steel to raw steel to polished brass. The inward brass pieces echo the detailing of the handles above.
