Shadows in the Windows by Ponti Design Studio

Shadows in the Windows by Ponti Design Studio

Italian designer Andrea Ponti, of Ponti Design Studio, took a look at two often seen staples of Hong Kong’s urban landscape – a window and a chair – when creating Shadows in the Windows, a project introduced at this year’s Milan Design Week. When looking at large apartments and skyscrapers, the rows and rows of identical windows become impersonal. Take a second look and you begin to see a bit of a story about the person or persons living there, possibly even catching a glimpse of their shadow.

Oftentimes what goes along with those windows is a seat that sits right by it, one whose silhouette you might see. For the project, Ponti created a series of seats within square window frames looking very similar, but each one has its own distinct look. The concept is much like what you’d find behind the various windows and reflects an aspect of the architecture of urban density.

Shadows in the Windows will be on display through April 9th, 2017 at the Superdesign Show 2017, Selected Objects pavilion, Superstudio Più, Milano.
