A few years ago, Jorge Penadés began to look at leather in a different way. So much of each leather hide produced is discarded after it’s deemed not a high enough quality for luxury goods resulting in enormous amounts of waste. That led the Madrid-based Penadés to explore a new production method that turns the offcuts, with the addition of resin, into a new material for home furnishings, called Structural Skin. The latest products produced are a series of mirrors and table lamps that bring the once-discarded leather back to life in a whole new way.
