For a couple and their cat, A Lentil Design dramatically renovated their Taipei apartment to become a happy space to enjoy each other’s company, along with watching their cat. Originally, the 3.3 square meter apartment was sectioned off by too many walls making it dark and appearing smaller than it actually was. The designer reworked the layout so it not only flowed better, but more natural light and air circulated throughout the rooms.
By removing the walls, they made the interior feel much larger than it is and wasted much less space due to all of the walls, corners, and halls. The second bedroom has now been converted into a living room, which functions better for their current needs. A bookshelf was embedded into the wall where the wall hung TV used to be to provide extra storage. There’s still room to have a sofa and table in the tight space.
Under the new mini staircase, they utilized the space for storage so it wasn’t wasted. The stairs lead to a new second bedroom for a future child or for a storage space until then.
