Last week we headed up to Santa Monica, CA to the Barker Hangar for the fifth annual WestEdge Design Fair to check out the latest collections by designers and brands from Los Angeles and all over. This is also the third time that Design Milk sponsored the MADE:MODERN section which features independent makers and artists and the first time our Milk Stand popup shop’s appeared at the fair. Needless to say, there was a lot to check out! Here are some of our favorites:
Loved this huge pendant by Studio Endo.
I fell in love with these pendants from PELLE.
NY-based designer John Sheppard was showing these really unique ceramics with black oxide detailing.
Croft House’s furniture was so comfortable that we almost couldn’t get out of it, but one of our favorite pieces of the show was this marble slab-top table.
Jason Mizrahi looks beyond the traditional form of a chair to create a unique set.
Karma Automotive was showing their cool Revero car.
Buster & Punch launched their first furniture piece, a beautiful bar. We may have tasted some of that whiskey too
AN Concept’s Aero series was amazing – a combination of airplane parts, lighting, and storytelling (complete with audio!). We loved experiencing it and will be sharing it soon in a separate feature).
Lynne Meade and Mirena Kim Ceramics showed us that the trend of ceramics isn’t going away any time soon (and we’re not complaining one bit).
Concrete doesn’t need to be boring and Concrete Collaborative’s tiles are anything but.
Presented by Samsonite and Installation Magazine, “The Art of Travel” exhibit featured custom-designed luggage pieces created by 24 street artists to benefit the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House. The silent auction for these one-of-a-kind luggages is still going on now through the end of the week!
Of course, we had to include our very own Milk Stand in our favorites. This was the first time the pop-up shop has been to the West Coast and we had a range of designers and makers who came from near and far to share their latest collections of modern jewelry, home decor, leather accessories and more. WestEdge attendees were able to shop and leave the show with some very cool souvenirs like…
…air plant accessories by airplantman.
…on-site monogrammed leather goods by Capsule.
…midcentury modern-inspired planters by Fire Road.
…concrete + stainless steel jewelry by KONZUK.
…sculptural necklaces by LACE by Jenny Wu.
…multifunctional bags by Lupa Bags.
…modern jewelry for everyday by Marja Germans Gard.
…trivets, trays and wooden boards by Multiply Made.
…wall hooks and plant hangers by New Made LA.
…plush new waffle robes from Parachute Home.
…unique shelves by The Small + Savage Wild.
…handmade soaps by UME Studio.
…and architectural jewelry by Zimarty.
