Umbra Shift is the offshoot brand of Umbra that produces more contemporary, forward-thinking designs that are not only functional, they make you re-think the way you look at design in general. The line continues to work with up-and-coming and established designers who make it a habit to work outside the box, and their Fall 2017 collection is no exception. This time around, they worked with Philippe Malouin, Jonah Takagi, Tom Chung, MSDS, as well as their in-house team at Umbra, to extend their already impressive catalog of work.
Available in Pink and Black, the Hoop Magazine Rack by Umbra Studio is made from faceted steel rods that are welded together to form a unique contraption to hold your books, magazines, or records. The circular ring not only props the rack up at an easy-to-view angle, it creates a handle to pick it up in case you want to move it.
The Press Mirror, designed by Philippe Malouin, is comprised of a tube of stainless steel that’s been pressed and polished on one end to become an unexpected mirror. The base is kept cylindrical so it can sit on a tabletop or be held in your hand.
From Jonah Takagi, the Rail Candelabra features three adjustable candleholders that rest atop a metal rail. The candleholders move so you can create any kind of configuration you want. It’s available in Black or Green.
Made from aluminum, the Tom Chung-designed Profile Servers are a new way to introduce food. The rippled profile lets food sit in place while being held in someone’s hand or as it rests on a table.
MSDS reimagined the basic office necessity into the Strip Tape Dispenser. The steel tool is sculptural in form and mimics the look of a packing tape dispenser.
