Anna Karlin has recently opened up a new studio and gallery space in the heart of Chinatown. The London-born, New York City-based designer is known for her interior projects for brands like Fendi and Adidas, and recently collaborated with Fernando Mastrangelo on a collection for NYCxDesign.
The designer undertook a former burned-down print shop and transformed the space into a world of her own. Karlin researched and recovered archival documents depicting the initial storefront, allowing her to restore it to its original state. With a showroom and studio on the ground floor and workshop below, the two-story space has been completely reimagined while still preserving hints of the past.
The space feels like an industrial sculpture gallery but with warm domestic touches through the Shaker-inspired cabinetry in the full English country kitchen, and the traditional detailing. Karlin has filled the storefront with her furniture and fine objects collection, along with a mix of objects collected over her travels, and beautiful antique chairs by nearby gallery Dienst + Dotter Antikviteter.
