Salon Design’s current gallery exhibition is a good one – Calypso is the work of Peg Woodworking founder, designer, and woodworker Kate Casey. The collection showcases her signature style of combining hand weaving and angular woodworking, with inspiration derived from Peruvian and American Indian weaving patterns and the clean lines of Shaker and Scandinavian furniture design.
Calypso is a nod to the Odyssey and the use of mythology and the historical tradition of weaving as a historically female craft. Casey’s collection explores the contrast between natural and blackened wood finishes through furniture, sculptures, and wall hangings and the quiet strength behind tradition. If you’re in Boston between now and June 9th, stop by Salon to see the exhibition for yourself.
