Hollis+Morris’s BLOOM Collection is Inspired by Nature

Hollis+Morris’s BLOOM Collection is Inspired by Nature

At last week’s ICFF 2019, Hollis+Morris’s Mischa Couvrette unveiled BLOOM’s contemporary Willow and Catkin lights in a mysterious, minimalist, and immersive design installation inspired by a view of nature. The inspiration for the three piece lighting collection was found in the catkin, a bud that appears on trees at the beginning of spring that lent itself to an in-depth investigation of the sphere, as well as spacing and scale.

BLOOM’s Willow floor lamp stands asymmetrically, like pussy willows rising from a pond, while the Willow horizontal and vertical lights are suspended from the ceiling. The cluster of orbs that are the focal point of each piece aim to mimic a fully budded Catkin bough whose blooms are nestled closely into a wood branch.

The defining feature of each of BLOOM’s fixtures are its hand-blown glass orbs. The Catkin pendant is slightly larger than you might expect, with a matte, milky surface. Its solid oak stem ground the design without leaving the feeling that they might catch a breeze far behind.
