The Cedars is a minimalist home located in Orient, New York, designed by Michael Yarinsky. The residence was originally built in the late 19th century situated in a quiet town along the bay. The clients, a young couple, wanted a space that would not only pay homage to the history of the building, but also represent their personalities as well.
Yarinsky referenced the surrounding ocean by using accented muted blues and greens, which contrasted the white-washed floors. The wallpapers reflect the transient every-changing scenery and the ethereal mood and movement of water.
Most of the interior maintains an open floor plan with the intention to promote communal meals and intimate conversations. The project was very much a collaboration with other talented artists. Yarinsky decidedly included works from local craftsman within the North Fork community, as well as taking pieces from familiar names such as Ladies & Gentlemen, Viriginia Sin, Light + Ladder, Calico Wallpaper, and Caroline Z Hurley.
