Can we get a little fanboy for a moment and say how surprisingly pleased we are seeing a darkly executed special edition of the Samsung Galaxy Note10+ being released in advance of the December 20th release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker?
The Samsung Galaxy Note10+ is already amongst our favorite Android mobile devices for its combination of lag-free performance, excellent camera, and the always evolving utility of the S-Pen. We use one daily as the Android counterpart to our iPhone for reviewing apps and as an ideal travel partner.
The Note has always operated as the SUV of mobile devices, big and versatile (for those of us who enjoy taking notes by hand rather than typing everything out, the Note offers a welcome compromise). But the Note’s most distinguishing attribute beyond its stylus or its oversize dimensions has been the performance of its screens, in sum responsible for kicking off the age of the phablet years ago (now the rule rather than the exception). We’ve used various iterations of the Note over the years, and it’s easy to consider this latest 10/10+ release as Samsung’s best, an all-new AMOLED screen with HDR10+ certification and dynamic tone mapping. Images and videos are delivered with a vivid punchiness balanced by accurate tonal range, with colors “visually indistinguishable from perfect” in testing across its 3040 x 1440 pixels screen.
While the Galaxy Note10+ Star Wars Edition doesn’t add any additional hardware upgrades, the aesthetic accoutrements include exclusive Star Wars-themed content like wallpapers, shutdown animations, icons, and sounds. The original spectrum of “Aura” prismatic finishes gracing the Galaxy Note 10 line are replaced with an all-black case accented with red buttons and detailing around the rear camera housing. A Kylo Ren-inspired lightsaber S Pen and black and red-accented set of Galaxy Buds, a leather cover, and a metal badge further denote the special nature of the set.
The Galaxy Note10+ Star Wars Edition treatment doesn’t change the hardware formula and obviously isn’t intended for everyone. But for those leaning toward the dark side, the design is nothing but [wait for it]…Sith-sational.
