Every other week we’re inviting one from the Design Milk team to share five personal favorites – an opportunity for each of us to reveal the sort of designs we use and appreciate in our own lives from a more personal perspective. Digital Marketing Manager + Writer Dani Howell takes the reins this week for our Take 5 series…
1. The Professor Pour-Over Coffee Stand
I first laid eyes on this pour-over stand a few years back in a local Austin, TX, coffee shop, and it immediately caught my attention. So, when I started getting into brewing coffee at home, I had to get it. It’s super functional, you can adjust the stand to fit different cups, it uses a Hario V60 glass pour-over and it looks great sitting on my kitchen counter when I’m not using it. Every time I brew with it, I immediately appreciate its design – and that’s a good way to start every morning.
2. Pro-Ject Debut Carbon (DC)
I’ve had this record player for about six years now, and I love it just as much as the day I bought it. In terms of tech, it plays and sounds great. That said, what really sold me on it was the modern, minimalist design. Because its one button is on the bottom, the clean lines really stand out. It looks striking whether you’re playing a record on it or not.
3. Muffin Pet Bed
I love my cat and want her to have the best – that’s why this bed is perfect. She splits her time curled up in hidey holes and sprawling lazily on top of anything she can find. This pet bed allows her to do both comfortably. From an aesthetic point, this bed has customizable colors, so you can make sure it matches your home’s personality and style. It’s nice to have pet products that actually look nice in a room!
4. Eliot Ripstop Series
As someone who loves going to coffee shops to write (well, before the COVID-19 pandemic), having a great backpack is a must. This Eliot Ripstop Series is perfect for that. Its sleek design means it’s easy to carry and looks good when wearing, and the minimalist layout means it’s easy to find whatever I’m looking for in it – headphones, pen, notebook, laptop, wallet.
5. Madcap Coffee
When I think of coffee and design, I think of Madcap Coffee. From their shops and merch to their coffee equipment and bags of beans, Madcap has an aesthetic I’m totally obsessed with. They stay true to design that’s clean, minimalist, with just an occasional pop of color. Oh, and they’re one of the best coffee roasters you can find, too. I’m always stoked when I open the mail and have one of these monochromatic bags with a strip of color waiting for me.
