The Minimalist Positively Negative Residence by DBA Architecture

The Minimalist Positively Negative Residence by DBA Architecture

Positively Negative is a minimal residence located in Venice Beach, California, designed by Dan Brunn, principal of Dan Brunn Architecture. Due to the constraints of the narrow site, considerable attention was placed on natural light, privacy and outdoor space.

A glass-encased central staircase is matched with lengthy skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows to promote abundant natural light and visual access via a multitude of vantage points. The circulation within the home was purposefully choreographed in order to create a balanced spatial and structural arrangement.

The home is characterized by an assemblage of voluminous spaces while utilizing structural markers to both break up the area and simultaneously provide privacy. Solar energy is utilized on the rooftop along with passive cooling and radiant floor heating to efficiently regulate temperature within the residence.
