DAWN is the solo debut of Italian sculptor and architect Umberto Bellardi Ricci, unveiled at Matter. Influenced by the designer’s architecture practice as well as his training in social services, each home furnishing is interconnected with the environment it resides in.
Ricci’s monumental forms are further indulged through the use of elevated materials, whether it be bronze in his seating, travertine in the coffee table or Dedar’s bouclé as upholstery. The modular lighting uses strategically folded aluminum to create warmth through refraction.
“What I find so interesting about the folding process is that the material shifts from something flat with no discernible three-dimensionality into something that starts to have spatial qualities,” explains Bellardi Ricci. “It begins to show its interior and exterior, and then you can start to reveal and to hide and to play or adjust those elements.”
