The following post is brought to you by Design Week Mexico. Our partners are hand-picked by the Design Milk team because they represent the best in design.
Now in its 13th edition this year, Design Week Mexico (DWM) will take over the city and highlight Mexico’s creative community with an exciting program of events from October 6-31, 2021. This year’s theme, “Design is the answer,” will be explored through various activations and digital initiatives, including DWM’s main exhibitions: Vision and Tradition, Inédito and Design House, all of which will feature virtual tours to allow all audiences to attend.
Vision and Tradition will run from October 20 through November 20 at the National Museum of Anthropology. The residency program, which was created to highlight the invaluable collaboration between artisans and designers, will honor the state of Oaxaca and celebrate its cultural and creative legacy.
Inédito runs from October 14 all the way through February 6, 2022 and will take place at Espacio CDMX. In its 7th edition, the event is an open call for designers to submit their utilitarian design projects that have never been abashed, disseminated or commercialized. There are nine categories which designers can submit their designs under: innovation, functionality, concept (critical design), user experience, materials and processes, aesthetics (art collectible object or piece), artisan social impact, environmental impact and circular design. There are also three participation categories: limited edition, professional and student design.
Design House, which runs from October 6-31, 2021, is a collaborative exhibition project where professionals in architecture, landscaping, design and interior design will restore and remodel a house to showcase an exhibition of styles and trends, all under one roof.
For design lovers looking to bring home a piece of Mexican design, the DWM launched Design Market, an online platform showcasing the best of contemporary Mexican design in home accessories, furniture, lighting and kitchen. This year features 28 Mexican brands offering more than 173 products.
