Interior designer and art advisor Elena Frampton is the founder and principal of Frampton Co. With locations in New York City and Bridgehampton, the firm designs and creates interior experiences, specializing in interior architecture, design and art advisement. Elena’s design approach is instinctual from the get-go. She reads a client’s latent desires for their space, bringing to life environments that they themselves didn’t yet know they wanted. Elena’s work gives shape and feeling to visions for where and how we live.
Frampton Co.’s portfolio includes residences, select commercial projects and F Collection private label furnishings. You can find the latter on view alongside other curated artworks for purchase in gallery settings at Exhibition The Barn in Bridgehampton and Exhibition Penthouse in NYC.
Today Elena joins us for Friday Five!
1. Sag Harbor Beach Walks
Living in Bridgehampton, I’m surrounded by dynamic ocean beaches and peaceful bays. My favorite morning ritual is to take my puppy Vesper for a long brisk walk at Long Beach in Sag Harbor. Located on a thin strip of land on Noyac Bay, it’s a beautiful spot for contemplation… and exercise when Vesper has me running! Beyond the water, birds and seascape, every now and again I’ll run into a familiar face.
2. Shore Rugs
These soft, made-for-bare-feet rugs are wonderful. We’re always on the hunt for brands that create durable and stylish indoor-outdoor solutions, and Shore Rugs fit the bill. Why shouldn’t our outdoor spaces be as colorful and layered as our indoor spaces? No off-the-shelf outdoor furniture sets here! No matchy-matchy! These rugs bring a uniquely energetic aesthetic to spaces.
3. Artwork by Howard Kanovitz
Howard Kanovitz was a mid-century photorealist painter who lived and worked in New York City and in the Hamptons. His airbrush technique and distinct vision is reflected in Hamptons Drive-In (1974), one of my favorite artworks in my own home. It feels like my own little slice of Hamptons art history – the actual Drive-In movie theater opened in 1955, just down the street. A much larger version of this artwork is a part of the permanent collection at the nearby Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill.
4. Taos, New Mexico
I often venture to the southwest for respite. I love Taos, New Mexico for its clear air, ample space for reflection, long hikes and its mysterious nature of spirituality. Desert landscapes hold a very special place in my heart and Taos has been the source of a lot of personal growth. I bring the energy it gives me back to New York. It’s part of what powers my creative practice, and what I bring into my thinking about spaces in conceptual ways and the energy in them.
5. Berry Campbell
One of my go-to galleries in New York City is Berry Campbell – great art works, friendly atmosphere and an inspiring robust program! The gallery champions female painters like Yvonne Thomas, Perle Fine and Judith Godwin, giving women artists long overdue consideration on the market. They also represent a diverse range of works with something for everyone: from minimalist Walter Darby Bannard, to the more expressive William Perehudoff, to the very geometric Ken Greenleaf. I can also spend forever perusing their online inventory – a convenience especially now.
