A Colorful, Vibrant Apartment in Barcelona by CaSA

A Colorful, Vibrant Apartment in Barcelona by CaSA

Located in Born, one of Barcelona’s oldest neighborhoods, this 65-square-meter apartment is housed in a building that’s dated back to the 13th century. A young Italian woman who works in fashion purchased the flat and hired Colombo and Serboli Architecture (CaSA) to completely refurbish it. The transformation resulted in a new, more open layout with vaulted ceilings, a playful color scheme, and original details.

The apartment was originally dark with three bedrooms and a broken layout. Walls were removed, leaving one bedroom and a large open living space for entertaining. Two large windows in the kitchen and living space keep it light and bright.

The open kitchen includes a rounded island and warm grey cabinets with an adjacent bright coral volume that disguises the powder room.

The bedroom hides behind pale pink doors just off the living room.

Shades of pink show up throughout the interior, including in the seating area where there’s a Roll Club Chair from Kettal.

A massive storage partition was custom designed to divide the entryway and the living area with rich blue doors and pink interior surfaces in the cut outs.

Desktop Wallpaper: March 2018

Desktop Wallpaper: March 2018

Continuing with our year of featuring wallpaper/textile/pattern brands for our Designer Desktop series, this month’s free download showcases a new playful, graphic pattern called Symbol created by Designtex. The New York-based textile company just recently released this upholstery which features a pattern of half circles and linear geometry, suggesting “an artful alphabet or fanciful coding.” Saturated pops of color are sprinkled throughout for a touch of unexpectedness.

To be honest, we’ve already downloaded these for all our tech devices. You can too with the links below!

David Rockwell Collaborates with The Rug Company on a New Trio of Rugs

David Rockwell Collaborates with The Rug Company on a New Trio of Rugs

No stranger to working with The Rug Company, architect and designer David Rockwell collaborated on three new designs for them that reference his love of nature – Lola, Misty, and Moonlight Tidal. The energetic trio of luxurious rugs feature subdued color schemes and eye-catching abstract designs that come together through modern techniques and traditional craftsmanship. Each rug is completely handmade by Nepalese weavers and is available in multiple sizes.

Misty

Made from bamboo silk, Misty features a rich indigo blue ombré design that transitions to white on the side edges.

Moonlight Tidal

Also made from bamboo silk, the Moonlight Tidal rug is an updated version of their original Tidal rug, featuring a cool and warm gray painterly design mimicking a reflection in the water.

Lola

Lola is a special design as it was inspired by a series of glazed ceramic vessels that Rockwell decorated with his daughter Lola in Pascale Girardin’s Montreal ceramic studio (see below). Rockwell’s dynammic design comes from the same brushstroke idea that Girardin painted on hand-thrown sake vessels for the Rockwell Group’s Nobu Downtown Restaurant in Manhattan.

Fizi Minimalist Lights by Articolo

Fizi Minimalist Lights by Articolo

Fizi is a series of minimal lights designed by Australia-based studio Articolo. The collection is characterized by its “effervescent effect” that is caused by how the glass is blown. The spherical glass form sits atop a pedestal in brass and mid bronze with a contrasting marble ribbon.

The artisanal qualities of the glass is further explored through the dramatic Fizi Slab, a piece of lighting that took 12 months to create, and extends the collection’s spherical orb into an elongated organic form. Nicci Green, creative director of Articolo explains, “The unpredictable nature of mouth-blown glass means the organic shape of Fizi Slab cannot be entirely controlled. This beautiful reality means each piece is genuinely unique.”

An effect of effervescent bubbles cascade through the pendant and wall sconce, reminiscent of champagne both in color and detail. Furthermore, the illumination source is carefully concealed to create a jewel-like effect that dissolves the bubbled light into its surroundings.
