Jane Hope Reimagines a 1960s Ski House in Saint Sauveur

Jane Hope Reimagines a 1960s Ski House in Saint Sauveur

High up Mont Suisse in Saint Sauveur des Monts, Quebec, Canada, resides a 1960s ski house that was in desperate need of an update. Jane Hope reimagined the dated interior with a focus on the surrounding views seen through the many windows that frame the lush greenery in the summer and the fresh white snow in the winter.

The main living space was designed as open concept for large family gatherings. The double-height pitched ceiling and walls are clad in wood that’s painted white with large porcelain tiles covering the main floor from the front entryway to the back deck.

The staircases features glass in lieu of the typical spindles and banisters helping to keep the sight lines open.

The living room is three steps down with cozy hardwood floors that extend into the bedrooms.

NIRU Slow Creations Launches with the Branca Lighting Collection

NIRU Slow Creations Launches with the Branca Lighting Collection

NIRU Slow Creations is the brainchild of Barcelona-based Ramos & Bassols design studio. After designing products for other companies for years, they decided to create their own brand. The name is based on the Japanese word ‘niru’, which means simmer, something the brand itself did until it was ready to launch its first collection, Branca.

The Branca lighitng collection is handcrafted in solid oak and outfitted with LED technology that emits a warm light from the entire length of the fixture. Each lamp features an integrated dimmer to adjust the light’s intensity and a black or red cord to plug it in. Despite being a long, linear fixture you’d expect to find only hanging, Branca comes in three versions, including a pendant, and two leaning versions – a floor model and a table model.

Native Union Lightning Cables Offer a Rosy Outlook

Native Union Lightning Cables Offer a Rosy Outlook

Native Union’s head of design Fabien Nauroy describes their new rose-hued collection as a “softer look”, a nod to the color trends led by the realm of fashion. The gentle hue joins the brand’s well established collection of Lightning cables designed to soften the eyesore of cables strengthened by a reinforced structure engineered to endure the constant stress of plugging and unplugging.

The Native Union Rose colorway is represented by four Lightning cable designs: NIGHT CABLE, BELT CABLE, BELT CABLE XL and KEY CABLE.

Like previous Native Union cable offerings, each of the four Lightning cables are wrapped in a combination of nylon braiding on the outside, with a TPE rubber sleeve, protective tinned copper braid, nylon fillers, and DuPont™ Kelvar® fiber strengthening the length from within. The combination is rated as six times stronger than standard charging cables (quantified by a rating of 10,000+ bends over the cable’s lifespan; one bend = 90° clockwise bend with a 180° counter-clockwise bend). Additionally, the connector joint is reinforced for durability at the stress point where breakage commonly occurs, usually the result of pulls and tugs made in a hurry.

A favorite feature is the weighted knot included with the 10-foot Night Cable, a simple detail that keeps the length in place across flat surfaces.

The pleasant hue makes it easy to leave these cables out without becoming an eyesore, a reliable bedside/desk or travel accessory.

The new rose hued design may be soft and pleasing aesthetically, but we can attest the cables offer a functional durability that puts Apple’s own Lightning cables to shame, all the while shucking off the trappings of the all-white cables accompanying iOS devices. The new Rose colorway can be purchased as a set or individually at the Native Union website.

While scouring the floor at this year’s ICFF 2018 show, we were immediately drawn to the Astek booth for this specific wall covering. Sugar Town (in Tutti Frutti) is a part of Astek’s new Utopia collection, a series of eclectic, fictional worlds and we thought this design would make for an inspiring Designer Desktop. The Astek design team was inspired by misbehaving monkeys, mystical islands, distant galaxies, literary works, and more. Each of the designs were created through a variety of techniques including cut paper, hand-drawn illustrations, gouache paintings, and virtual reality renderings.

This Sugar Town wall covering immediately caught our eye with its punchy color palette. Inspired by the modern architecture of Tokyo, it makes you want to get lost in the print as your eye trails through the city. Download it below for all your tech devices for when you need an inspiration reminder.

A Maze: An Analogue Marble Gaming Console by Marco Iannicelli

A Maze: An Analogue Marble Gaming Console by Marco Iannicelli

It’s not a pinball machine or an arcade game, instead A Maze is both an analogue and electronic gaming console designed by Marco Iannicelli. The game is a visual illustration of the complex space/time continuum making it easier to understand how two close spots on the maze are also separated from one another by the length of the never-ending route the ball takes.

Traditionally, labyrinths lead you around until an end is reached, but with A Maze, there’s no end. The marble labyrinth comprises seven concentric rings that link together so there’s no end or beginning. Instead, a circular plate, controlled by a joystick, moves around allowing the silver ball to roll down the channel uninterrupted.

The labyrinth was created with seven rings, as seven is often considered a mystical number and one that shows up in our every day lives with a seven day week. The number was also chosen to reference Miller’s Magic Number, which is based on George A. Miller’s research that found the human brain’s short term memory can only remember seven things (plus or minus two pieces of information) at a time.
