A-Frame PAN Cabins on Stilts Let You Cozy Up in the Treetops of a Finnish Forest

A-Frame PAN Cabins on Stilts Let You Cozy Up in the Treetops of a Finnish Forest

Designed by Norwegian architect and professor Espen Surnevik, the PAN Cabins in Gjesåsen at Åsnes in the district of Hedmark, Norway give modern travelers the experience of living up in the treetops of Finnskogen (Finnish forests). With expansive views in every direction, visitors will get the experience of camping but with the comfortable amenities of a hotel.

There are currently two A-frame cabins on site, with one more opening later this fall. Both are set on slender steel structures eight meters off from the forest floor and are 40 square meters. Both cabins also include six beds, a bathroom, kitchen and living room with a fireplace. Electricity and floor heating will keep you warm as you take in the sights. PAN 1 will give you a birds eye view of the forest and the nature reserve of Lake Gjesåssjøen while PAN 2 shows off more of the Finnskogen.

The Nebula Alpha’s 3D-Knitted Seating Softens a Futuristic Ride

The Nebula Alpha’s 3D-Knitted Seating Softens a Futuristic Ride

Future-forward mobility vehicles are a favorite subject matter when it comes to designers imagining a more sustainable and economical transportation system, especially in the form of electric scooters. Speculative concepts like the angular Akira-esque BMW Motorrad Definition CE 04 forecast the global adoption of affordable and efficient electric-powered rapid commuting vehicles beyond automobiles, noting the entry point is far lower when it comes to purchasing two wheels rather than four. Following this forecast, Hong Kong design studio Oneobject’s curvilinear Nebula Alpha and Beta scooters propose a softer technological approach when it comes to Point A to Point B commutes.

Designed for “mid and long distance urban travel” the sleek curving silhouette of the Nebula Alpha is primarily defined by a sweeping 3D-knitted footrest section emerging upward into a seat. A water/dirt resistant application coats the entirety of the Alpha’s purple to pink ombré interior, accentuating the upturn motion toward the e-scooter’s stool-like seat and also hiding a small compartment.

Underneath this scooter’s seat houses the the Alpha’s battery compartment, accessible with an easy to lift loop for quick charge change outs.

Parametric LED head and tail lights are built into the swooping undercarriage of the Alpha design, only visible when necessity requires illumination.

A HUD display not only delivers real-time driver information and safety warnings, it also simplifies the entire layout of physical controls. A small hook extends just underneath the handles, offering rider’s an extra storage+carry option.

And as the name implies, Nebula is paired with a secondary and smaller kick-board e-scooter concept counterpart, one intended for short distance travel. The Beta’s slim, lightweight design mirrors many of the same design features of its larger sibling, one optimized to deliver riders across the final mile(s) of their daily urban commute.

The PLYN Sofa by FAINA Is Inspired by the Soft Power of Water

The PLYN Sofa by FAINA Is Inspired by the Soft Power of Water

Inspired by the soft yet powerful force of water, founder Victoria Yakusha of FAINA designed the PLYN sofa to bring a natural calmness to the spaces in which it sits. PLYN, which means fluidity in Ukrainian, is reminiscent of coastal stones that are formed and naturally polished by water. The PLYN soft range also includes a bed, small sofa, armchair and bench.

When speaking about the inspiration behind PLYN, Yakusha notes:

I started thinking about acceptance and fluidity after the pandemic when we all felt on our own skin that we couldn’t affect some things. In today’s world, acceptance is often equated with weakness, vulnerability. But it has its own, hidden power. Water moves stones with its softness.

In presenting PLYN to the world, Yakusha also created an art series of photos depicting the parallel between the PLYN sofa and a human; both are consonant in their fluid lines while keeping the soft power inside. She expands:

We have to learn from Water. Flexible and accepting, it changes the forms, but never lose its essence. Accepting the outer world and interacting with it, we’ll reveal our own soft power.
