A Spacious Accessory Dwelling Unit in Austin Complete With a Murphy Bed

A Spacious Accessory Dwelling Unit in Austin Complete With a Murphy Bed

Matt Garcia Design designed an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) in West Austin, Texas that easily compares to a single-family home. The Verdi Place ADU spans 540 square feet, a comparable size to a one-bedroom apartment, but it feels much more spacious with floor-to-ceiling expanses of glass that carry sight lines to the outdoors.

The compact house extends outside with a wooden deck that surrounds the structure. Its flat roof also extends out creating an overhang for much needed shade in Texas summers.

Insides, two of the four perimeter walls are made of glass making it appear much larger than it actually is. White surfaces are paired with light wooden floors and neutral furnishings for a clean, modern feel.

A murphy bed hides within a built-in cabinet along the back wall. Even when the bed is down, there’s still plenty of room surrounding it.

A full-sized kitchen runs along the back wall with lower white cabinets and an open shelf above for display.

The ADU also includes a bathroom which is the only walled off space in the unit.
