The following post is brought to you by A’ Design Award. Our partners are hand-picked by the Design Milk team because they represent the best in design.
There’s been a shakeup this year in A’ Design Award’s 2020 World Design Rankings (WDR)! China surpassed the United States of America to rank number 1 among 108 represented countries. The U.S. took the number 2 spot followed by Japan, Italy, Hong Kong, Great Britain, Taiwan, Germany, Turkey and Australia.
The 2020 design rankings of countries is based on the number of design awards won at this world renown international juried design competition.
There were 86 platinum design awards won globally and two new countries are included in the rankings: Macau (China) and Iraq.
Besides the rankings, which you can find at worlddesignrankings.com, there are three additional tables for each country—strengths, weaknesses and opportunities. “Design Strengths” displays dominant design fields, in which a country is highly competitive and successful; “Design Weaknesses” displays fields where countries might improve.
Additionally, “Design Business Insights” ranks countries by their design fields and creative categories so you can discover which countries are ranked the top in Interior Design, Fashion Design or Industrial Design. To drill it down further, the “Designer Rankings” lets you discover top designers, architects and creatives.
The 2020 World Design Rankings are a great way to learn more about design from around the world, get inspired by global designers for your own work or find design partners or creatives. We always love to pour over the winning designs from each year—the creativity never disappoints.
