Exploring Chinese Contemporary Design with Frank Chou

Exploring Chinese Contemporary Design with Frank Chou

“We cannot change the reality, but we can create a better one. China is getting more prosperous, but in spirit it’s a developing economy still. As an independent studio, we have tiny power but strong responsibility to lead, teach, and fight for rights as well as a better future.” – Frank Chou

If you know design you know Maison&Objet, the world’s leading international design event. This year’s took place earlier this month at Paris Nord Villepinte and Frank Chou, founder and creative director of Frank Chou Design Studio, was proudly named the winner of Rising Talent Awards China.

The design industry in China is on a rapid upward trajectory quickly gaining recognition worldwide, and Frank Chou has become the foremost representative independent design studio in the country. His design studio focuses on using the ‘world’s common design language’ to create long-lasting pieces. Chou’s youth spent in Beijing plays a role in this mindset as well as the studio’s ability to straddle the line of aesthetics from both East and West. On that line lies the sweet spot of modern Chinese design and Frank Chou’s eye for it.

Frank Chou Design Studio continues to grow their business and further broaden their audience by using environmentally friendly materials in their work, hoping that they’re doing their part to influence other Chinese designers and upgrading the country’s design industry and quality of life in the process.
