USM + kinder MODERN: A Colorful Wonderland for NYCxDesign

USM + kinder MODERN: A Colorful Wonderland for NYCxDesign

For NYCxDESIGN, New York City-based gallery/design firm kinder MODERN reimagined the SoHo showroom of modular furniture brand USM by creating an inspiring playground of ideas based around the Swiss company’s ball joint. The collaboration unveiled playful designs constructed from USM’s customizable Haller system that comprises a frame made of ball joints, connector tubes, and colorful panels. While Haller is typically used for storage, kinder MODERN’s founder Lora Appleton took the series to a whole new level.

Appleton’s colorful wonderland featured innovative storage ideas, a headboard, mini basketball court, desk, sculptural plant stand, vanity, carpet-covered seating stations, and pixelated wall art. Interspersed with the USM pieces, commissioned furniture and designs by a select group of artists and designers, including Buckley, Dusen Dusen, Elyse Graham, Fort Standard, Paul Ketz, Adrian Kay Wong, Diego Faivre, Yoko Nakanishi, Rodger Stevens, and Visser & Meijwaard, were on display.
