The Otto Seating System Invites Comfort and Conversation

The Otto Seating System Invites Comfort and Conversation

If creating a space for comfort and conversation is your goal you’re going to like Otto. The seating system, designed by Lucy Kurrein in collaboration with furniture makers Molinari, made its debut at London Design Fair. Created with a campfire in mind, Otto (‘eight’ in Italian) gently curves inward thanks to its equal octagonal sections reminiscent of 1970s Italian domestic design.

“Sitting around a camp fire is a rare occasion, and that was the starting point for Otto; I wanted to bring this sense of easy conviviality into the home and into our daily routine,” says Kurrein. “I wanted to create an environment for conversation.”

Otto is made with a steel frame, injection moulded back and arms, and high-quality elastic straps before being upholstered in a mix of foam, feather, and polyester wadding. A feather-filled lumbar support cushion accompanies each segment. Otto’s flexible system can be configured in a number of different ways, and combined with left and right armrests or straight sections. There are also stand-alone pieces – an armchair, a straight two-seat sofa, and an angled two-seat sofa.
