A Modern Maple Chair and Table by Kai Takeshima

A Modern Maple Chair and Table by Kai Takeshima

Several years ago, Japanese-Canadian furniture designer Kai Takeshima designed a clever way to store and display vinyl. Now the Montreal-based maker is back with two new pieces of furniture, the Lounge Chair I and Low Table IV, that embrace minimalism while evoking a sense of warmth and coziness. Each piece has been meticulously handcrafted in maple resulting in a smooth, pale finish that feels clean and timeless.

Lounge Chair I has a contemporary Scandinavian feel with clean lines and a relaxed silhouette. The seat is 10 degrees reclined while the seat to back spans 103 degrees for optimal comfort and relaxation. The cushions are finished with a 100% wool fabric, but Takeshima can make the chair in other woods or fabrics if desired.

The Low Table IV is a modern and practical side table to keep next to a chair or sofa. The tabletop can be lifted to reveal a small storage space that can easily stash a book, magazine, or snacks for quick access. It’s shown in maple, but like the Lounge Chair I above, it can be made in a variety of woods, including a mix for the base, top, and tabletop.
