Reusable Glass Straws That Would Make it Easy to Say Goodbye To Plastic Ones

Reusable Glass Straws That Would Make it Easy to Say Goodbye To Plastic Ones

It’s a new year and a new decade (what?! how?!) and a great time to make a commitment to our planet. One of the main offenders is single-use plastic straws, as billions of them are thrown out every year only to wind up in our oceans and on our beaches. If you’ve ever had the pleasure of using a paper straw as a replacement, you’re probably familiar with it disintegrating faster than you can drink your drink while also depositing paper remnants on your lips, making it clear it’s not a good solution. That’s where glass swoops in to save the day and in this case, 100% recycled borosilicate glass, which can be used in either hot or cold beverages. Benjamin Hubert, of design agency LAYER, partnered with Surface magazine to create a collection of reusable glass straws that offer a plastic alternative while also working as a centerpiece for a table.

The trio of glass straws come in complementary colors within a glass bell jar and recycled rubber base. When they’re not in use, they can live in the jar forming a unique, branch-like composition that awaits your straw needs. The sculptural straws vary in height and diameter, making them suitable for different types of drinks ranging from a cocktail to bubble tea.

Along with being reusable, the glass is recyclable, biodegradable, and hypoallergenic, making it the perfect material for a straw. Plus, they’re easy to clean. And unlike metal straws, there’s no change in taste like there typically is when metal is used.

Sadly, these straws are given out at Surface events only and aren’t available for purchase.
