This Pocket-Sized Speaker Is Pure Nostalgia

This Pocket-Sized Speaker Is Pure Nostalgia

Remembrance of things past is not necessarily the remembrance of things as they were.”

The Proustian quote seems apropos in light of the ideas behind Second White’s Mini Speaker, a wee piece of technology inspired by the scratch-laden memories of listening to music on vinyl.

Conceptualized as an evocation of “listen[ing] to music in the past, not the present”, the Seoul-based Second White’s design is a minimalist interpretation of the portable turntable, miniaturized into pocketable proportions and outfitted with Bluetooth connectivity for wireless playback anywhere.

The design is also reminiscent of Naoto Fukasawa’s iconic MUJI CD Player, albeit one much smaller and more readily adaptable for audio playback in a digital format world.

While no record player was ever so small nor portable as Second White’s Mini Speaker, its simplicity evokes a time when settling in to enjoy music was as simple as pressing “play”.
