Asian + Swedish Influences Meet in the Ayana Outdoor Collection

Asian + Swedish Influences Meet in the Ayana Outdoor Collection

B&B Italia and designer Naoto Fukasawa have collaborated on the Ayana collection, a minimal collection of outdoor furniture with southeast Asian and Swedish influences. Featuring beautifully rich woods, the backrest is a clear reference to a Swedish wall bar, a piece of exercise equipment that’s used as a load-bearing element in Ayana’s two and three seat sofas, as well as an armchair. The collection’s welcoming minimalism is completed with a dining chair, a dining table and a low table.

There are so many thoughtful touches in Ayana, for example both the two and three seat sofas and armchair have armrests at varying heights. The armchair’s are higher for a more ergonomic seat, while the sofa’s armrests are lower to give them the ability to be combined with an easily fastened removable cushion. In fact, the upholstery of this collection stands out for the individual cushions used in its seating, each covered with waterproof fabric.

Ayana’s dining chair stylistically matches the other seats, featuring natural teak wood and two generously padded cushions. The tables stand out for their use of supporting structures in natural weather-resistant teak and serpentine tops. The teak used to make the structures is Forest Stewardship Council certified, and all materials used in the series can be separated and disposed of at the end of their lifecycle.
