FLUID ADD-ONS: Jenny Nordberg’s First Solo Exhibition in Stockholm

FLUID ADD-ONS: Jenny Nordberg’s First Solo Exhibition in Stockholm

Swedish designer Jenny Nordberg recently opened her first solo exhibition in Stockholm with stockholmmodern where she presented a new collection of work, including mirrors, pewter mirrors, a thermometer/clock, and candleholders. As with her previous work, FLUID ADD-ONS includes pieces driven by experimentation with focus on the uncontrollable and highly standardized. Take a look.

Mirrors is a series of Square and Circular Mirrors, each in an edition of 10, that were born from research on to ancient mirror making techniques done back in 2014 when she was working on her 3 to 5 Seconds – Rapid Handmade Production project. Falling in love with the process and its results, Nordberg created these oversized mirrors by applying a thin layer of silver (Ag) on the glass and letting it do its thing. Since liquids are uncontrollable, each mirror is different.

Estrid are a series of one-of-a-kind pewter mirrors where she adapted a method of casting metal objects in her own studio, despite its limitations. Unlike the previous mirrors, these are made when a liquid metal solution is poured onto a surface.

Brick rounds out the exhibition with this thermometer/clock that’s made from cast glass bricks made by hand in an Italian glass foundry before being assembled in Sweden. The same method is used for the Brick candleholders below.

FLUID ADD-ONS is open until March 3, 2018 at at stockholmmodern Rödbotorget 2, Stockholm.
