Summer may feel like a lifetime away right now, but soon enough warmer weather will return, and with it the pleasures of cooking outdoors. And for that purpose, there might be no better looking new grill than these Spark Grills Precision charcoal models, a mid-century modern inspired outdoor cooking appliance with Palm Springs-style poolside backyard appeal.
Finished with a pleasant matte sheen across its double walled porcelain enameled steel in charcoal and three additional colors, the $799 Spark stands apart from the typical all-black or brushed metal industrial grills prevalent at most home and hardware stores. In fact, the Spark grill could easily be mistaken for a modern drink cart rather than an outdoor cooking system engineered to reach temperatures as high as 905°F – hot enough to bake pizza with the expediency of a wood-fired grill.
The Spark Grills’ extremely high temperature capabilities are attributed to skipping typical individual charcoal briquets for their own combination of wood and charcoal cooking medium. Formed into a single sheet and made in Boulder, Colorado, these Briqs purportedly deliver improved smoky flavor compared to traditional store bought briquets, while also simplifying loading, speeding up ignition delivered with a single push-button control, and making for easier clean-up.
The company plans to offer various styles of Briqs, including Smoke, Grill, and Bake options with various formulations of oak, mesquite, hickory, and other flavors. And of course, there’s an app too, assigned to keep tabs of temperatures and alert once food has been fully cooked.
Spark Grills is currently accepting signups on their waitlist before pre-orders begin in May 2020. Additional information over at the Spark Grills website.
