Old Meets New: The AXYL Collection by LAYER x Allermuir

Old Meets New: The AXYL Collection by LAYER x Allermuir

Benjamin Hubert, founder and creative director of design agency LAYER, collaborated with UK furniture brand Allermuir to create the AXYL, a collection of cafe furniture that will launch at this year’s London Design Festival. The collection consists of chairs, barstools and tables all designed using familiar elements, such as the A-frame typology and a mid-century Danish wrap-around shell, but in new forms. Additionally, all the pieces in the collection are made with recycled aluminum, wood fiber, timber, and nylon. The impact of reusing waste products is pretty significant; it takes just 5% of the energy used to create new aluminum to create the frames for the chairs. With the slender Y-frame legs, the AXYL chairs can stack four-high for easy storage. Slight curves and bends give the pieces a softer look to a mostly linear design.
