The Art of Minimal Style by BrandsExclusive

We have a tendency of making our lives more difficult than they need to be. Whether it’s our schedules, wardrobes or homes, we are creatures that like to collect and complicate. Which is why we think it’s so important to master the art of minimal style.

Now before you think we’ve gone all Zen on you, this is not to say there’s no time or place for fun and vibrant prints and details. Quite the opposite! We just suggest building a foundation of clean, quality and simple pieces that will take the stress out of deciding what to wear each day. They’ll also make the patterned and sequined pieces more fun to wear when the right occasions arise.

Go Back to Basics

Basics form the basis of any decent wardrobe. Timeless, easy to wear and perfect for layering, staples such as tops, jeans and cardigans make the perfect additions to any capsule wardrobe. Opt for quality materials such as pure cotton or cashmere, it’s better to buy less at a higher price as you won’t need to replace your basics as often.

Keep it Neutral

When it comes to the colour palette of your minimal wardrobe, you can’t go wrong with neutral hues. Grey, taupe, beige and other subdued shades will team effortlessly with anything while creating a look that is effortlessly chic. Layer a beige woollen overcoat over a pale navy shirt and team with skinny grey jeans and white heels to create a look that is as on-trend as it is non-nonsense.

Master Monochrome

An extension on wearing neutrals, but perhaps a step higher in the realms of chic and fashion-forward style, monochrome pieces are essential for a minimalistic wardrobe. There’s always been something bold about pairing black and white together, whether it’s as simple as wearing a plain white dress with black heels or through a monochrome geometric jumpsuit. As with all the above, remember that quality is queen, so invest in luxurious fabrics such as silk and cashmere.
