No Sleeping Bags Required: Glamping At AutoCamp Russian River

No Sleeping Bags Required: Glamping At AutoCamp Russian River

Say the word “glamping” and you’ll get various reactions from different camps (no pun intended) of people. There are those who don’t know what it is (it’s the current hospitality trend of luxury camping), those who scoff at the idea (can you really bond with nature if you have all the amenities of an upscale hotel?), and then there are those who fall into the “I wouldn’t mind it” crowd. I’m definitely in the later after discovering AutoCamp. The California-based luxury camping company combines the best parts about camping (like being walking distance from beaches and Redwood forests) with my favorite parts about staying in a hotel (like upscale amenities and deluxe beds). Just like camping though, glamping isn’t for everyone, but if you love the idea of camping without the gear and vacationing closer to nature, then AutoCamp Russian River might just be for you.

San Francisco-based Geremia Design curated the interiors of AutoCamp’s Russian River property, which has 25 custom Airstream trailers and 10 luxury tents available for reservation. Like camping, these airstreams and tents aren’t decorated and furnished with excess, so that you can enjoy what’s right outside your door.

Modern amenities include Malin+Goetz products, plush robes, light fixtures by Schoolhouse Electric, Casper beds, and deluxe Coyuchi linen beddings.

A midcentury modern-inspired pavilion designed by Dan Weber Architecture acts as a lounge and community hub for guests to meet and mingle, with indoor and outdoor fire pits, bikes to borrow, wifi in case you need to check in, and a shop filled with local beers, wines, snacks and camping essentials.

What: AutoCamp Russian River
Where: 14120 Old Cazadero Road Guerneville, CA 95446
How much? Rates start at $225/night in the Airstreams and $139/night in the luxury tents
Highlights: AutoCamp makes it easy to say yes to glamping because the experience itself is just so easy. You’ll be near state parks, a river and Pacific Ocean (so that you can experience the great outdoors) and you’ll be near local markets and eateries (so you don’t have to worry about catching your dinner).
Design draw: Modern design companies like Dan Weber Architecture and Geremia Design made sure that this was a modern way to camp. You won’t be roughing it with accommodations like custom built Airstreams and spa-inspired bathrooms with walk-in showers.
