Codependent Is a Table That Melds Design and Psychology

Codependent Is a Table That Melds Design and Psychology

Fletcher Eshbaugh’s new project for 1th Studio, Codependent, brings together design and psychology. As the first piece in what he envisions as a larger collection, Codependent is a physical manifestation of codependency. It’s based on the idea of animaforma, the blending of mind and form.

There are two interlocking tables, one black and one white, and together they allow the other to stand. The larger black table has two legs, depicting the rescuer/enabler in a codependent relationship. With only one leg, the white table represents a victim.

Eshbaugh expands on the relationship between the tables: “The two tables seemingly have a great physical effect on one another. The black table leaning into the white, and the white piercing the black with turned edge much like a bullet would exit a target.” Together, the conjoined tables reveal that both participants in codependency rely on each other.
