A Bright Idea: 10 Modern Desk/Task Lamps

The only place we spend most of our time besides the bed, is at the desk hunched over working away. One of the most noticeable issues in offices is the lack of light, as windows can be few and far between. That said, desk lamps are a must-have if you want to avoid inevitable eye strain and headaches. Luckily, there’s plenty to choose from at Lumens and we rounded up 10 of our favorites.

CSYS Task Lamp by Jake Dyson
This sleek lamp proves lamps don’t have to be oversized and bulky. Inspired by construction cranes, the lamp comes complete with an adjustment mechanism that smoothly positions up and down, back and forth, and rotationally for light exactly where you need it. Plus, its LED light will last approximately 37+ years!

VL38 LED Table Lamp by Louis Poulsen
Designed in 1940 by iconic designer Louis Poulsen, this lamp combines a white shade and base with a brushed brass stem for a classic, clean look that has transcended almost eight decades.

Havana Table Task Lamp by Jonathan Adler for Robert Abbey
Designer Jonathan Adler brings a vintage vibe to this task lamp, which comes with a white shade that’s laser cut with a perforated design. A polished nickel body holds the shade in place and the lamp features a handy dimming switch for additional light control.

Quattro LED Task Lamp by Robert Sonneman for SONNEMAN Lighting
While this lamp comes in the standard black, aluminum, and white, we’re particularly fond of the red/yellow/black option, as it pays homage to Piet Mondrian’s color block paintings. With its square base and square shade, the lamp’s geometric form is minimal while also making a statement.

Tizio Classic Task Lamp by Richard Sapper for Artemide
Originally designed in 1972, this lamp’s modern design has stood the test of time with its easy adjustability and industrial silhouette. This classic has even been added to the permanent 20th Century Design Collections of the New York Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum.

Cleo Desk Lamp by Kelly Wearstler for Visual Comfort
If you’re looking to really make a dramatic and artistic statement, this task lamp is the perfect choice. It features geometric, sculptural components paired with a brass arm and white, cone-shaped shade that make it resemble a piece of art.

Giraffa LED Table Lamp by John August for Pablo Designs
Available in Copper, Black, or White, this sculptural lamp can be used as a task or accent light, depending on your needs. Its cylindrical components rotate to adjust the light in various positions while maintaining its giraffe-inspired silhouette.

Grasshopper Table Lamp by Greta Grossman for Gubi
The mid-century inspired Grasshopper lamp was originally designed in 1948 with an industrial look that still feels very modern. The brass arm features an organic curve that perfectly angles the adjustable shade down for directed light.

Horizon LED Task Light by Peter Stathis for Humanscale
Utilizing Thin Film Technology, this task lamp is able to emit an ultra-wide glow of warm light that’s free of glare. It’s compact and streamlined with a slim, rectangular shade, all of which is made from recycled aluminum.

Type 75 Desk Lamp – Margaret Howell Special Edition by Kenneth Grange and Margaret Howell for Anglepoise
For something a little different, yet a classic, choose this special edition Type 75 lamp from Anglepoise. This edition brought in designer Howell to collaborate on the 1970s lamp by color matching the original desaturated Yellow Ochre of her lamp from that era.
